'People are too serious these days' grins Goldie Lookin Chain's Mystikal 'they need to take a fucking good look at themselves and laugh a bit more. It's not hard.'

The band are in Manchester at the beginning of their UK tour supporting the release of their fourth album 'Asbo4life'. Tonight they will play a storming set to adoring, rather drunk, fans but for now Mystikal and bandmate Billy Webb sit down for a chat with The Record Journal.

While many assumed GLC were a flash in the pan, it has actually been four years since their debut single 'Half-man Half-machine' entered the UK charts. Since then they have gone from strength to strength and been taken to the hearts of music fans.

'There was a man at the show who said he listened to one song and he actually found God admits Mystikal 'Adam Hussain's 'New Day.' It's an enlightening tune, it's experimental and it touches a lot of people in a lot of special places.'

It's difficult to get a sensible conversation out of Goldie Lookin Chain. A lot of masturbation is mentioned, a lot of sexual references are brought up and a lot of nonsense is spoken. However, would you rather hear about Maggot's meeting with Freddy Mercury, Billy Webb’s desire to be David Beckham's best friend or the normal interview questions?

Both Mystikal and Billy are pleased to be back on the road. Manchester is the second date on the tour following a raucous night in Sheffield the evening before. 'It was club night after and it was like Skins' admits Billy. 'Apart from jizz up the walls' adds Mystikal 'but I'd imagine if we'd stayed a bit longer there would have been and shit on the ceiling.'

Mid tour the band will release their new album, which is not something they seem overly concerned about. 'I haven't got a copy' admits Mystikal 'I've got a half completed album with half the lyrics missing so I don't now some of the songs.' Billy has had a final version, much to his bandmates annoyance. 'It's been a while since we had anything out' says Billy 'I think a lot of people don't know we put a lot of stuff out on the Internet. There's loads of music there.'

'With our album it's like being presented with a KFC family bucket' laughs Mystikal 'Here's the good stuff and anything you don't want, leave it but you will enjoy it anyway so give it a go. Make your mind up.'

The band are sure this album and tour are nothing to worry after bandmate Maggot had a suprising message of support. 'Last week he had a dream that he was at 'An Audience with Freddy Mercury' Mystikal recounts 'and the spotlight falls on him and he took his wave and Freddy reached out and touched Maggot and he was like “thank-you, thank-you. I feel empowered.” He actually saw it as an omen of good thing and prosperity and a good tour.'

Billy: 'Touched by the hand of Freddy'.

Mystikal: 'Touch by mercury in our dreams'

Billy: 'Beautiful.'

With Freddy watching over them the band seem to be avoiding the headlines that have plagued their career. In 2005 the band performed before England played Wales in Cardiff and caused anger by dedicating 'Your Missus is A Nutter' to David Beckham. The Welsh FA apoogised on behalf of the band, something that clearly still annoys them.

'If you’re apologising on behalf of someone then on behalf of should be fully informed of your actions' states Mystikal 'David found it funny, He was on the pitch with us the time. If he was seriously offended he could have run up and smacked one of us. He might lose his sponsorship so maybe he wouldn't.'

Billy: 'I would have loved to have seen it'
Mystikal: 'It would have been fucking hilarious because we'd have decked him. We'd have all piled in.'
Billy: 'I would have stopped you and go 'leave my Dave alone' and then I would have formed a strange friendship with him over it and I'd be flying out to LA or Milan. Fuckers ruined that for me.'
Mystikal: 'Dave, you're aftershave is very nice. I'm sure your footballing talents are very good as well but I don't apologise. There is not harm in it. What's the problem.'
Billy: 'I personally could have said something much worse. If I could have my time again I would.'
